Spring Hinge

Aug 19, 2013

A hinge containing one or more springs; when a door is opened, the hinge returns it to the open position automatically; may act in one direction only, or in both directions (as on a swinging door).

Doors with spring hinges allow the door to close on its own. The tension on the hinges need adjustments so that the door will close fully and seat in the latch without closing too quickly or strongly and banging the door shut. Hinges with excessive tension will wear out the latch and latch strike plate from too much force.

1、Close the door entirely. Insert a hex wrench in the adjustment location on the top of the hinge. Push the short end of the hex wrench into the adjustment hole.

2、Remove the cotter pin from the bottom adjusting hole by pulling it straight out by its ring. Place the cotter pin loosely in the bottom adjusting hole so that about half of its length is in the hole.

3、Turn the hex wrench clockwise slowly by grasping the long end. At the same time, hold the cotter pin in place. The cotter pin will meet the first adjusting hole and will slide into it fully. Push the cotter pin all the way in the adjusting hole.

4、Remove the hex wrench by pulling it straight up. Open the door and let it go. Observe the closing action to make sure it closes entirely and latches. If the door does not close with sufficient force to latch, repeat the adjustment process.
